How to Keep Your Upcoming Boudoir Photo Sessions a Surprise
It’s going to be so much fun to see the look on your partner’s face when they see your spicy photos for the first time – but oh god, are you stressed because so bad at keeping secrets?! Fortunately for you, I’ve put together this list of tips to help you keep everything to do with your boudoir photo sessions top secret.
Update Your Boudoir Photographer’s Name in Your Phone
Don’t just put “Earthly Venus Boudoir” as my contact! That’s a dead giveaway if they see any texts or phone calls. You can always just put my first name, (which is Haley, by the way) or even better: “Haley Accounting” or “Domino’s Pizza“. They won’t suspect a thing!
Schedule Your Session Mindfully
Plan your boudoir session session and relevant calls for when you’ll be away from your partner. For most people it will be easiest to do this while they’re at work, or another regularly scheduled activity. So even though you may love the idea of doing a photo shoot on the weekend, you’ll probably have better luck keeping your boudoir photo sessions under wraps if they happen during the week.
Plan Your Commute to the Photo Studio
Your baby is so so sweet for wanting to drive you everywhere. In fact, they may want to give you a ride to your photoshoot, but don't let them -- even if you’ve come up with a good lie, the location of your photoshoot may be a dead giveaway of your boudoir session. Instead try calling a ride-share, taking the subway, or driving yourself.
Lie to Explain Where You’re Going
If you can get to and from your session without getting caught you don’t need to say a thing, but if you live with your bae it can be super suspicious to slip away and say nothing. It’s good to have something you can talk about to casually explain your boudoir session without raising other questions.
Boudoir photo sessions? Never heard of them. You’re just…
Going to a Makeup Trial: This one is perfect for brides. Even if you have another makeup trial that they know about, you can say you didn’t love the artist and are trying someone else. This ones great because it also explains your hair and makeup being done.
Hanging Out With a Friend: Bonus points if your bestie covers for you.
Running Errands, Shopping, Making Returns: Good for making all of your wardrobe pieces in your go-bag make sense. Bad for if your bae loves to shop and will want to join.
Going to a Routine Doctor/Hair/Beauty Appointment: This works best the less they understand about how the appointment you’re “going to” is supposed to work. Pick something they've never gone to and have never had any interest in going to. If you're not afraid of being a little toxic, an appointment your partner finds controversial (like plastic surgery) can make them emotional enough to distract them from your surprise. Use wisely.
Attending a Workout Class: This one is also good for covering up your duffle bag of lingerie. But if you want to enjoy your hair and makeup for the rest of the day (and you probably will, because you're going to look fantastic) it's harder to cover after you come back home.
Off to Do An Activity They Have Absolutely No Interest In: They won’t want you to talk about it if they think you’ll keep pressuring them to come, so they’ll stop asking questions even if they were suspicious at first. They’ll just be relieved that they don’t have to go.
“WHY ARE YOU BEING SO SUSPICIOUS OF ME?! YOU ALWAYS DO THIS!”: When in doubt, start a fight. Gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss. Anger is a great distraction! They might think you're cheating or doing drugs or something, but boudoir? The last thing on their mind. Again, use your powers of toxicity with caution.
Plan How You’ll Hide Your Gifts
If your boudoir package is being shipped, ask your boudoir photographer about how discreet the packaging is. Our packaging at Earthly Venus is super discrete, however pieces like large wall out are going to stand out in the mail no matter what. However, if you can pickup your pieces and plan a smart time to bring them home, even large photographs and boudoir albums hide well in closets and under beds. Be sure that wherever you keep your photos that it’s a dry place that doesn’t get too hot or too cold; this will prevent your images from getting damaged in storage.
