How to Pose for a Group Photo: Easy Hack for Tall Girls
If you’re the tall girly in your friend group, you’ve probably experienced this: group photos where you’re awkwardly towering over everyone else, unsure of how to fit in gracefully. If you want to know how to pose for a group photo as the tall friend, here’s an easy trick you’re going to love.
This week on a TikTok, one of our community members shared a challenge they’d been dealing with:
“I'm 6ft, all my gfs are shorter. group pics I find myself hunching over. but if I stand straight and tall i look like a beast.”
As a boudoir photographer (and fellow tall girly), I totally relate.
In my favorite heels I stand at 6’1” (and practically looming over all the 5’2” girlies in my friend group). Just look at this photo of me and my bestie before we went out for the night — I was truly fighting for my life. But I looked too good to walk away without the perfect photo.
Here’s the good news: I’ve developed one simple, game-changing solution — and thank god, because these photos are so awkward!
My Secret Trick that Works Every Single Time? Crouching.
It sounds awkward, I know. But trust me, the difference is night and day. Standing beside shorter friends in a photo often makes us tall girls stick out like a sore thumb.
When you crouch, you create visual harmony — and you’ll thank yourself when you see the results.
The Crouch in Action: The Results Speak for Themselves!
Take a look at this example: I crouched down in front of my friend and the outcome? We both looked better! We got a stunning, cohesive shot where neither of us looked out of place. Yes, you may feel a little silly crouching in the moment, but the photos will capture nothing but confidence and balance.
This is how to pose for a group photo! I felt like such a baddie, and my friend and I both looked fabulous. You’d never know we shared such a big height disparity.
Tips to Get It Right
Practice Makes Perfect: Experiment with different crouching angles in the mirror at home to get comfortable. Try sticking a leg out. Try a version with knees together. That way when it’s go-time with your friends, you’re prepared!
Ignore the Awkward: It’s so uncomfortable sometimes to be the friend who is ready to full send the group photo. WHO CARES! How it looks on camera is what counts.
Try a Few Variations: Since you won’t be able to see the back of the camera, try a few different poses in the moment. Give yourself a few options.
