A Note From the Artist
This photo was a part of a collaboration between myself and the OnlyFans star Paul Howard. This series was taken alongside custom content for one of his clients. Paul and I spent an entire day in a hotel room creating these voyeuristic pieces, and the room we were in had a beautiful bathroom with a tall glass shower we were incredibly excited to play around with.
It reminded me of an online community “boobs against glass” that shares a simple love of seeing breasts pushed against – you guessed it – glass. So in a similar spirit, Paul and I decided to distort his body along the walls of our hotel shower to see what sort of images we could create.
This moment of play quickly became its own technique as the aquamarine tone of the shower glass also manipulated the colors of Paul’s skin, giving it a glowy, waxy, watery look. Audiences even mistook the photograph for an oil painting when we exhibited the piece in galleries.
When I see this photo myself, it brings my mind to thoughts of the often misunderstood “female gaze.” I hesitate to use this term myself, as the male gaze is so omnipresent in our lives in a way that the female gaze, however powerful, will never be; I’m not convinced that any single work of art has the power to de-program our patriarchal ways of seeing. What I can however say with my whole chest is this: it brings me absolute bliss that we may objectify men to our heart’s content, even if it’s only as a consolation prize to true gender equality.
